Andrew Greig

Andrew Greig is a poet, full time writer and ‘sometime musician’ and described as ‘Scotland’s Renaissance writer’ He was born in Bannockburn, near Stirling, and grew up in Anstruther, Fife. He studied philosophy at the University of Edinburgh and is a former Glasgow University Writing Fellow and Scottish Arts Council Scottish/Canadian Exchange Fellow. He has written over twenty acclaimed books of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. He has been shortlisted for the Walter Scott prize, and won the Saltire and Scottish Book Awards. A full-time writer and sometimes musician, he lives with his wife, the novelist Lesley Glaister, in Edinburgh and Orkney.

Andrew won our 2022 Book of the Year Award  for his fine novel Rose Nicolson. Set in a dangerous world of post-Reformation Scotland his mix of real life and fictional characters, from Jamie the Saxt to the volatile students at St Andrews, pulls the reader along at a swift and intoxicating mix.
